Graphics
The graphics in this game are a
nice, welcome, refreshing
change from the usual look of arkanoid clones. It is an isometric form
of 3d
graphics. The best part of the graphics is the beginning of each level,
when
the screen rotates and zooms in twice, to show you the level in its
entirety.
The ball is a constantly-spinning multi-sided…–gon.
Overall, this has a nice
look to everything, including the floor to the levels.
Graphics Score: 8/10
Sound
There is a nice stereo techno
beat to this game, and it is
the same beat throughout the menus and game itself. It goes nicely with
the
pace of this game, and you cannot really tell where it loops, but it
does. It
is not repetitive at all, since the song is just long enough to not get
annoying.
The sound effects are decent, though the hitting of regular bricks
could be a
little more inventive. Revealing those many hidden bricks makes a nice
shattering noise, and is welcome. Powerups/powerdowns have different
sound
effects, as do the different forms of the ball(s) and paddle. Overall,
the
sounds and music are a definite plus in this game.
Sound Score: 8/10
Gameplay
Here is what makes up the core
of this game: the gameplay.
It is your basic arkanoid clone, but it does have some variation. That
is to
say, it has powerups and powerdowns that affect the paddle and ball(s).
It’s
all been done before. There is nothing too exciting in that department
of basic
arkanoid nostalgia. However, the best part of this gameplay is that the
bricks
are in 3d, which means that structures can be built out of the bricks.
This
makes for some interesting levels, and the addition of invisible
bricks. In an
effort to, say keep with the sense of physics and gravity in game,
there are
invisible bricks that hold up other regular bricks, to create the
illusion of
floating bricks. When the invisible bricks are hit once, they are
exposed, and
one more hit destroys them, which in turn makes the bricks on top fall
down
some. This is a pretty fresh idea, and has not been done very much in
these
types of games, at least on the mobile level. A solid game, yet nothing
too
groundbreaking, yet fresh…A myriad of qualities here.
Gameplay Score: 9/10
Overall
My final thoughts on this game
are positive. It is a fine
piece of code, and is worth your hard-earned money. One thing I would
like to
of seen is a level editor/creator, but that is not a big deal. A
dynamic camera
may have added a bit to the coolness factor, but once again not a
necessity.
This is a nice game, and definitely a contender for the top of the list
of
arkanoid clones.
